WARNING: IT DOES NOT CURRENTLY WORK ON IPOD TOUCH.

Hopefully a future update will fix that..

Guitar Rock Tour is an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows you to play  both guitar and drums. While the name is misleading and we’ve seen games like Tap Tap Revenge come through the App Store already, this game manages to pull off the Rock Band feel very well for an iPhone app.

There’s a lot to do in this app that will keep your interest for a while if you like this sort of game. You can jump into quickplay or play tour mode. In quickplay you can select the difficulty for each song you play as you go through them where in tour mode you’ll be playing one set difficulty per tour. There are six different characters for you to choose from in tour mode, but it’s simply preference as there’s no benefit to one over the other.

The game itself is a lot of fun to play. One of the best features is the fact that you can rotate the phone upside down so you’re not covering the speaker if you’re playing without headphones. Playing each instrument is similar to any other music game you’ve played. Tap the notes as they pass the line to continue your multiplier. The orange colored notes give you “super power” that you can activate by flicking a switch as a guitarist or hitting the second batch of them as a drummer. There’s also a pyro effect powerup that will clear the board for you.

This game is a lot of fun and the music selection isn’t bad either. It’s odd to hear covers of some songs on that list, especially Boys Like Girls, but to get the tracks how they want them, sometimes the bands just aren’t available to re-record. If you’re a fan of Guitar Hero or Rock Band, definitely check this game out.
